Thinking About Purchasing A Cowhide? Wait!

Thinking About Purchasing A Cowhide? Wait!

If you are making the decision to purchase a cowhide rug, STOP!  Don't make any purchases until you know the truth about owning a cowhide rug.

Will my cowhide go bad?

The short answer to this question is: absolutely not!  Cowhides are a wonderful addition to any home and are extremely durable due to being a natural animal byproduct.  Many of our customers have had their rugs for over a decade with minimal wear and tear.  Not only do cowhides stand the test of time aesthetically, they are also a timeless tradition seen in homes of all decor for many decades.  They aren't going out of style anytime soon!

Will it fit my decor?

Upon first glance, you might think you're looking at a rug best suited in a western themed home.  Homes with western decor and cowhides almost go hand in hand but did you know that we have seen cowhides used in all types of homes ranging from western all the way to Modern.

Since cowhides come in so many colors, shapes, and sizes, they can be used in virtually any decor with any amount of space.

How will I know what size to get?

Since cowhides are a natural animal byproduct, the hides are all one of a kind and come in all kinds of shapes and sizes due to the fact they once were.. well you get it, an animal!  When deciding which size to choose, it's important to know that hides come in a range of sizes.

At Cowhides Direct, our sizing is simple:

  • Medium - Approximately 6x6 or 36-44 sq feet
  • Large - Approximately 6x7.5 or 45-48sq feet (the most popular size!)
  • Extra large - Approximately 6.5x7.5+ or 49+ sq feet

While this is used to describe the size in general, all of our cowhides are individually measured so that when you make a purchase, you know the exact size you are getting.

Does the country it comes from really matter?

A question we get at Cowhides Direct by more folks than not is: does it really matter where the cowhide comes from?

Simply put, it does matter.  When it comes to cowhide rugs, nobody does it better than the country of Brazil.  Due to the special tanning process and history of cowhide production in the country, they really have learned how to do it best.  If you are looking for a more in depth explanation, see our article Country of Origin: Does it matter?

Purchase from a reputable dealer

When it comes to purchasing a cowhide rug, it can be a daunting task to try to figure out the best balance of quality, price, and service.

Many of our competitors will often tell misleading information about the rugs they carry and will often give excuses about their inferior product by telling customers that its okay for their "Brazilian" rug to curl up or give off a strong odor.  This isn't true at all!

At Cowhides Direct, we only sell Saddlemark products, a company that prides themselves on a higher standard of quality.  All of their products are hand selected, come with a certificate of authenticity, and a Saddlemark stamp of approval (on the backside).

When it comes to service, we feel the customer should always come first and we do our very best to provide honest, helpful support 7 days a week.

Now that you've officially educated yourself a little bit in the cowhide market, it's time to take a look at what options are available!  See our vast selection of cowhides from Brazil and other parts of South America
